Decker was just 17 when she caught the ear of an official of Big Yellow Dog Records who began selling her music to label and artist. Jessie James released her debut album in the month of August. The album was a self-titled release. Jessie James enjoyed a modest number of hits and Wanted reached the Top 40 on the Singles Charts. Decker was always considered a "country" musician, however this album is produced and marketed for a pop audience. Decker's music was under greater attention after the launch in the form of two hits. The following track, Boys in the Summer was a country-inspired track. Decker's second album, announced by the title Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records was shelved because Mercury noticed the weak performance of three of Decker's singles on the country charts.
